sparklepets

a tender & fun place to keep a little critter

adopt a lil pal (or a few). keep them fed and happy, make somewhere sweet for them to live, wander down to the shops, spend an afternoon at the carnival. it's your garden to explore.

if you also spent 2006 lovingly raising digital creatures on the family computer, this one's for you

sparklepets is a cozy virtual pet game. adopt a critter, give em lots of food and head pats, and make somewhere nice for em to live. there are shops to browse, minigames with high scores to chase, and a pile of shimmer to spend however you like. race the clock if you want to (or don't).

adopt a lil pal

the adoption center is full of friends you just haven't met yet. whoever's waiting there is who you get to choose from, in whatever colors they turned up wearing. give em a name and they're yours to love from then on, and you can look after a few at a time!

the shops

shopkeeps who bake, trade fairly, and are extremely proud of their fruit. spend your shimmer on treats, or sell them the things you’ve outgrown.

the carnival

a row of striped tents full of small games, high score boards, and shimmer to be won. new tents might appear every once in a while.

your home

a room of your own to customize into a home. your critters wander it, and get SO stoked when you show up with snacks.

your critters live in the atmosphere

sparklepets is built on atproto (the open protocol behind bluesky). you can sign in with a handle you already have, and your pets are written into your own repository as records you own.

which is a technical way of saying: there's no new password to remember, and nothing about your critters is locked in a database that belongs to me. as a frontend-loving engineer, i LOVE not hosting your data lol, that is one of my favorite things about atproto.

your handle signs you in
your pets are records in your PDS (personal data server)
your data goes where you go
no new passwords to remember

a place to relax (for both of us)

i'm building sparklepets for fun. partly to make something cute on this new internet but also to learn something cool and be creative! things might have bugs. shops might appear. games will get better. thank you so much for being here with me!!
